A May 1 charity event is planned to help victims of April wild fires in Montague County, TX.
The fundraiser, being organized by local event planner Donna Smith, will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the VFW hall in Bowie, TX.
“We will have free barbecue dinner for everyone, amazing auction items from all of my hotels, restaurants, clients and friends,” she said.
Dave Alexander and his band along with local fiddlers will provide entertainment.
The fires fanned by high winds April 9, tore across thousands of parched acres in North Texas, destroying homes and forcing the temporary evacuations of some small towns, schools and a nursing home.
North Texas volunteers wanting to help organized Friday’s event to help those, including many farmers and ranchers, who lost their homes.
For people wanting transportation to the event, a charter bus will leave Smith’s Grapevine business, Out of the Garden, at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Free wine and beer will be aboard the bus for those traveling to the event.
