Malcolm McDowell. The festival also will salute film, television and theater actors David Hyde Pierce in The Perfect Host, Peter Riegert in White Irish Drinkers and Karen Young in The Green .
“People always ask if there is a ‘theme’ to this year’s festival and we always say no, because our selections for the spring program are never theme-based,” said Ann Alexander, the festival’s managing director. “We screen new and classic films, shorts and features, and create programs based on what we think will be interesting and provocative for that particular year.â€
Still, each year, certain common threads tend to emerge, she said.
“This year, we take more than a few road trips, an ever-popular film theme, and there is a definite elegance to the films featured,” Alexander said. Not elegance as meant in the fashion sense, although Cary Grant is certainly a style icon for the ages, but rather the elegance that comes from keen intelligence and self assurance.”
The USA Film Festival is a 41-year-old Dallas-based non-profit organization dedicated to the recognition and promotion of excellence in the film and video arts. Year-round events include KidFilm; Dallas’ only official Oscar Night America program; monthly screenings; special programs and premieres; and the USA Film Festival, held each spring. Throughout the year, the festival presents a variety of membership, exhibition, educational and cultural programs designed to bring together film enthusiasts and filmmakers.
