‘Queen of Steaks’ Opens First Freestanding Site

by Larre Green on May 7, 2011

Dee Lincoln

Dee Lincoln, known nationally as the “Queen of Steaks,” opens her first freestanding location this month.

Forget having to go to the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington to experience on of the most innovative Tasting Rooms in the Southwest, now Dee Lincoln’s Tasting Room & Bubble Bar is just a parking spot away.  After enjoying such success with her Cowboys Stadium, Dee Lincoln is opening her first freestanding location at Rosewood Court, 2101 Cedar Springs Road in Uptown Dallas the second week of May.

Unlike any traditional bar or basic tasting room, the Dee Lincoln’s Tasting Room & Bubble Bar concept combines a cool lounge approachable food, sexy bar, beautiful patio, wines and champagnes by the ounce, glass or bottle all served in an elegant, fun atmosphere.

Additionally, this new innovation will feature the utmost, state-of-the-art components such as the first flute machine in the United States which according to Lincoln will dispense champagne at the perfect temperature and allow guests to experience bubbles by the ounce.

“Champagne is not just for celebrating anymore,” Lincoln said. “It is a viable option to either pair with food or enjoy on its own.”

“Life is for livin‘,” said Lincoln. This unique lounge will offer alternatives to dining. “I want customers to feel they are guests in my home promoting the American tradition of sharing good food, great wines and hand-crafted cocktails with business associates, friends and family while creating lasting memories.”

As for the menu, Lincoln worked with chef Blaine Staniford to develop one that includes delicious selections such as artisan salami and cheese (a chef’s selection of cured meats and cheeses served with grilled rustic breads), classic caviar, crispy port salute served with Oregon huckleberry jam, house-made dips (bell pepper pimento cheese, hummus with smoked paprika, rosemary and lemon marinated olives and roasted eggplant and mascarpone), smoked salmon parfait (chopped egg, capers, shallots, crème fraiche and chives),  and “not your ordinary meatballs” among other culinary creations.

The concept will offer the wine lovers the opportunity to experience a tasting of as little as two ounces of wine to the full six-ounce glass, giving even a novice wine connoisseur the feeling of an experienced sommelier.

“The Tasting Room will feature something for everyone,” Lincoln said. ”Across the bar, I will serve fun wines by the glass from small wineries at a value that won‘t be found anywhere else. Or guests can select additional choices and higher end labels from the machines. Bottle selection is a must for those who wish to settle in and enjoy the evening.”

Look for a sexy interior in this two-story, 4,000-square-foot tasting room complemented by three tiers of custom-made bubble chandeliers designed in Venice.

Lincoln resigned Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in 2010 after expanding the steakhouse luxury brand from Dallas across the United States.

The phone number for Dee Lincoln’s Tasting Room & Bubble Bar is 214-979-9463 (WINE).

Easter Eggs, Mint Juleps and Hats

by Joy Donovan on May 6, 2011

It was way too early to be awake but we dressed for the royal occasion. Photo courtesy of Dallas Morning News.

The past few weeks, my hats haven’t even needed to be tucked away on the highest shelf of my closet. They’ve been in almost constant demand. We’ve had so very many hat-wearing occasions. Isn’t it great?

First, it was Easter. Surely an occasion for the traditional Easter bonnet. I wore a light lavender straw that day for the church. I’m not sure the “Hallelujah Chorus” would sound right if I weren’t wearing a hat.

Then last week, it was the royal wedding of that cute Kate Middleton to Prince William. My friend Bonnie and I made it by 4 a.m. to Grapevine’s British Emporium to take in the royal wedding on the big screen there. Yes, we were in a parking lot, but we drank our tea wearing hats and pearls, thank you very much. The Dallas Morning News thought we were cute enough to take our picture.

Later that night I wore the same purple-and-lavender straw to another wedding-watching party. I know straw in the evening is just all kinds of wrong, but what do you do when you have “hat hair?”

Now, we come to Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. Gosh, I’m thinking black, wide-brimmed straw might be the right thing to cheer on that female jockey. Who’s making the mint juleps?

The best part of all this? Wear a hat=don’t fix your hair.

Princess Catherine Perfect Enough?

by Joy Donovan on May 4, 2011

Was this wedding dress perfection or what?

Loved it, loved it, loved it! The dress…you know which one I’m talking about.

Heard one of the comedians say that seeing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was like porn for women. I don’t know about porn, but I can tell you I was mesmerized, I wanted to see it again and again and I want to discuss it ad nauseum.

The lace–gorgeous. The bodice–perfect. The pleated skirt–so appropriate.

When she married Prince William last week, I thought the bride looked simply amazing.

I do think the future queen of England must possess one rock-solid ego, too, to allow her sister and maid of honor, Pippa, to wear such a stunner of a bridesmaids dress. Those two sisters seem to have one the genetic lottery, didn’t they?

Now, because I can’t really say anything nice, I will refrain from discussing William’s two female cousins. It’s just too unfortunate. Again, you know which ones…

Ouch. Whoville is missing a resident or two...
