The past couple of months we’ve watched two normal gals–I can’t bring myself to say “commoners”–marry a prince. Cinderella stories in real life…a girl’s true fairy tale.
Charlene Wittstock, a former South African Olympic swimmer,  married HSH Prince Albert of Monaco July 3. The statuesque blonde chose a Giorgio Armani gown adorned with pearls and Swarovski crystals. Catherine Middleton, donning a lace and satin Alexander McQueen creation, became the bride of Prince Williams April 29.
The new princesses, I’m sure, will be regulars on the best- dressed lists everywhere. Hooray for that. I’m so glad we’ll have some style influences other than flip flops and tattoos.
Now, I don’t feel too sorry for either bride, but maybe just a little bit. There must be some sort of unique pressure when you are compared with such style icons as both new brides’ mothers-in-law. Whether it’s Princess Diana or Princess Grace, the spectre of such fashion superstars must be a rather unwelcome burden.
However, it’s not a problem like a fatal disease. So if it’s what these two have to deal with…oh well. I’m sure they’ll remain the darlings of Vogue for years and years.
