Julie Andrews sang about Maria’s favorite things in “The Sound of Music.” You might remember –raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens and so forth.
We all have our own lists, don’t we? Mine would include Broadway show tunes, Diet Cokes from Sonic, Chanel No. 5, summer tomatoes, laughing babies and book signings, mostly my own. Book signings I always knew would be a great thing, but only the past year, since the publishing of “Grace & Gumption: The Cookbook,” have I actually had a chance to participate in this lifelong fantasy.
I have waited in line to get books signed by certain authors. While that can be a thrill, it doesn’t compare to the thrill of being asked to sign my own autograph to my own book. Haven’t gotten tired of it yet. Not one little bit.Â
The authors of “Grace & Gumption,” published by TCU Press, recently were asked to headline an event co-sponsored by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. The authors are a smart, interesting group of women, and I’m just privileged they let me hang out with them. You can read editor Judy Alter’s take on the evening here: http://judys-stew.blogspot.com/2011/08/fun-and-food.html#links.
Our next gig will be in October for the auxiliary at Texas Health Resources HEB Hospital in Bedford, and then in April at the Fort Worth Woman’s Club. Just ask us to sign the books…we love it like Maria likes those bright woolen mittens.
