"50 IS SAXY," a birthday bash and CD release party for Saxophonist, David Carr, Jr., was held July 24th at the Omni Park West Hotel, Dallas. Highlighting the evening was the debut of the commemorative 30' X 40' painting, "Hot", by artist Suzy Moritz whose gallery of art was showcased throughout the evening. As a party favor, all the guests received David's newest CD, "Half A C Note," just released that evening.

Metroport Meals on Wheels celebrated 30 years of making a difference in the lives of the seniors in our community with a Tee-Off Dinner & Auction on Saturday, June 12th at the Dallas / Fort Worth Marriott Solana in Westlake. Proceeds from the tournament help fund the home-delivered meals and senior center programs.

The Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce held their first Women in Business brunch titled The Empowered Woman “The Power of the Purse” Wednesday, July 14th at the Piazza in the Village. Just under 200 women enjoyed speakers Robert G. Anderson, MD, Shivaun Palmer and Nancy Klompus, who spoke on women’s purchasing power in the today’s economy, health and looking your best.

North Texas SNAP held an Hawaiian themed summer dance in June at the Simmons Senior Citizen Center in Euless. This organization enriches the lives through programs and services of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The 2010 Pro Players Golf Classic was held Monday, June 7th at Timarron Country Club. Each foursome was paired with a celebrity athlete for the day. The Pro Players Foundation is a 501©3 non-profit organization made up of professional athletes along with business and community leaders who volunteer in the assistance of disadvantage children in our area.

The 2010 Pro Players Golf Classic held their Light The Way benefit in June at the Marriott Solona. The event, hosted by Roger Staubach helped raise money for Bryce Saldi and his family. The event featured a Giving Tree, a live tree, where guests hung candle lanterns donated in Bryce's honor. The tree will be planted on the grounds of Bryce's alma mater, Carroll Senior High School.

Metroport Meals on Wheels held their 19th annual Golf Tournament at Trophy Club Country Club on Monday, June 14th. Over 320 players participated to help make this another successful fundraising event for the organization that provides home-delivered meals, activities along with so many other support services for the elderly in our community.

The Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer hosted its 3rd Annual Clayton Dabney Foundation/Dave & Buster’s Kids’ Golf Classic in June at the Las Colinas Country Club. More than 180 players, ages 7 to 18, participated in the fundraising event.

The Steaks and Stetsons benefit for Special Olympics Texas was held at the Hyatt Regency DFW, Saturday, June 26th. The event boasted special guest, Dallas Cowboy legend Drew Pearson, State Representative Vicki Truitt and her husband Jim as the Event Chairs and Rick Stacy as auctioneer.

On Thursday, June 17, The Greater Keller Women’s Club (GKWC) received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, honoring their commitment and many hours of service to the local community. The organization became an official certifying organization for the Presidents Volunteer Service Award in August 2009. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard—measured by the number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime.

Vitae Foundation, a national non-profit organization, presented “An Evening with Mike Huckabee” at the Hilton Anatole Hotel, Dallas.

Family Gateway, Inc., a Dallas area non-profit organization that provides housing and comprehensive care to families with children experiencing homelessness, recently held a tea hosted by Janie McGarr and Nancy Halbreich, the daughters of former Dallas mayor and Family Gateway founder, Annette G. Strauss.

Westlake Academy Foundation’s Gallery Night “The Romance of Italy,” held Feb. 26 at the Marriott Solana, set records in number of attendees and dollars raised. The event more than doubled last year’s fundraising total, bringing in over $240,000 with a record in sponsorships (nearly $70,000) and a record attendance of 285. This annual event raises funds and awareness to benefit the students at Westlake Academy, one of only six schools in the United States to offer the prestigious, rigorous International Baccalaureate program for K-12.

Themed "Under the Tuscan Sun," this event featured CBS-11's own Ginger Allen as Mistress of Ceremony along with club member and local community friends as models. Fashons were provided by Dillard's.

An accomplished businesswoman and community leader, Kathleen Mason, CEO, Tuesday Morning Corporation, received the Eighth Annual Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award, presented by Bank of Texas and Texas Woman’s University. The award was presented by Texas Woman’s University Chancellor and President Dr. Ann Stuart. Sis Carr was honorary chair of this luncheon.

The theme for this year’s Puttin’ on the Pink luncheon was “Girl Talk: Tell a Friend, Save a Life” and more than 950 attendees showed their support at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Funds raised went for women’s health screenings, breast diagnostics and educational materials for the underserved of Tarrant County. While the Tarrant County community dined on a scrumptious lunch, they were treated to a runway fashion show where cancer survivors, children and fashion models donned the latest spring trends. During the three-minute challenge, Bradie James of the Dallas Cowboys spoke of how cancer has touched his life. When he was a sophomore in college his father died of liver disease, then his mother passed away three months later from breast cancer. Since that time he has launched Foundation 56 to honor his mother's memory.

Tarrant Area Food Bank's Empty Bowls Artful Luncheon to End Hunger, held in February, raised a record $207,600. The luncheon features hand-crafted bowls for each attendee.

Watermere at Southlake, Southlake’s first and only master-planned development for adults aged 55 plus, recently donated 21 children books to the Southlake Public Library. Kerry McGeath, librarian and deputy director of community services of the City of Southlake, accepted the donation during a recent event at the community. The 21 children books represent the 21 families that will make their homes in the recently constructed villas of Watermere at Southlake. The donation was presented by Sally Vann and Jane Perry, both sales counselors of Watermere at Southlake.

Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth was the site of a forum with real estate professionals discussing proposed developments on West 7th Street.

A Wine and Jazz Birthday Soiree celebrated the birthday of saxman David Carr, Jr. and generated cash for KlaasKids.Org. Through a silent auction and a percentage of ticket sales, the event benefitted the war against human trafficking of children. The fundraiser was hosted by Times Ten Cellars Winery, in the Lakewood area of Dallas. The evening included a silent auction, wine, dinner by Extreme Cuisine Catering in Denton, dessert by Delicious Cakes in Addison, and dancing to the music of David Carr, Jr.

The steering committee for Rocky Top's annual Great Trail Drive met in July at the Young Artists of Texas Gallery to kick off planning for its Oct. 10 fundraiser. The Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant crowned Kristen Blair as the new Miss Texas Friday in Texas Hall at the University of Texas at Arlington, giving her the chance to compete in January for the Miss America title. Three nights of preliminaries with award winners selected each evening led up to the final night. Taylor Lowery also was chosen Miss Teen Texas at UTA.

Genesis Women’s Shelter welcomed her Majesty Queen Noor as the keynote speaker for the 16th annual Genesis Mother’s Day Luncheon. The sold-out event, entitled, “Peace on Earth Begins at Home,” was held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion. Through her eloquent message, the queen linked the global challenges of women to the challenges women face in North Texas. Honorary co-chairs were Ruth Altshuler and her daughter Susan Sharp, and luncheon co-chairs were Joan Eleazer and her daughter Layne Pitzer.

Underwriters, sponsors, and friends of Genesis Women’s Shelter gathered at the home of Jean Claude and Beth Saada the evening before the 16th Annual Genesis Women’s Shelter Mother’s Day Luncheon in honor of Her Majesty Queen Noor’s arrival in Dallas and to celebrate this year’s Jane Doe Award recipient. The 2009 Jane Doe Award commemorated the 15th Anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, the first national solution to the national epidemic of violence against women. The Jane Doe Award recognizes extraordinary efforts made on behalf of women and children living with violence in their homes. The act was championed by Vice President Joseph R. Biden., who was invited to accept the award on behalf of VAWA. He was unable to attend, but in his place, Catherine Pierce, director of the Office on Violence Against Women in the US Department of Justice, attended and accepted the award.

Cotes du Coeur, the 18th annual charity event for American Heart Association's South Central Affiliate, set fundraising records when it was held recently at the Hilton Anatole. The fine wine auction and celebrity chef dinner raised $1.5 million, making it one of the top seven AHA galas nationwide. Plans are already under way for the 2010 fundraiser, with Tim Wallace, CEO of Trinity Industries returning as gala chairman.

Caroline Rose Hunt, an accomplished businesswoman and community leader, was honored as the recipient of the Seventh Annual Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award at the Belo Mansion and Pavilion in Dallas. The award, established in 2002, is given annually to a leader commited to improving the community and furthering education.
