David Russell to be Horored at March Event

Vice President of External Affairs for Verizon, has been named winner of SafeHaven of Tarrant County’s Legacy of Men Award.

He will be honored at an 8 a.m. breakfast March 7 at the Omni Hotel in Fort Worth. The breakfast, designed to inspire men to take a stand against domestic violence, will be chaired this year by Hal Brown, publisher and owner of Fort Worth, Texas Magazine. Proceeds will benefit SafeHaven of Tarrant County (www.safehaventc.org).

Russell has been instrumental in the company’s support of domestic violence intervention and prevention initiatives. Previous winners of the annual award have included Dallas Cowboy Jason Witten and Mike Stone, former president of the Texas Rangers.

“Violence against women is an epidemic,” Brown said. “SafeHaven sheltered 2,338 women and children fleeing abuse in their homes in 2010. As a leader in Fort Worth, I feel a responsibility to help end this. The Legacy of Men Breakfast aims to mobilize the city’s male leaders, coaches, businessmen and others in this fight to end domestic violence.”

In addition to honoring Russell, the event will feature a keynote panel comprised of  Bob Lilly, eleven-time Pro Bowler and first-ever Dallas Cowboys draft choice; Gary Patterson, Texas Christian University football coach; and Tim Buchanan, 2010 undefeated Aledo Bearcats state football championship coach. They will discuss leadership, respect for women and other issues relating to domestic violence. Scott Murray, former sports broadcaster, will emcee.

Reservations cost $100, with host tables selling for $1,000. Reservations maybe made by contacting Valerie Salter at 817-546-6040, ext. 246 or vsalter@safehaventc.org.
